Will My Printer Print-on-Fabric?

To print-on-fabric you will need an Inkjet Printer.

A Laser Monochrome printers will not work - they will print, but the ink not be washable or print well on your fabric.

Inkjet Printers will print on fabric - will it be washable? One good test is to print on paper, moisten your finger, and rub it across the printing. If it doesn’t smear, then your ink is basically waterproof.

Inkjet printers are either pigment-based or dye-based. Most older inkjet printers were dye-based. Today, however, there is little difference between current dye-based and pigmented inks, with the edge going to pigmented inks. (Epson Inkjet Printers and Canon are pigment-based ink printers.)

Always best to test first, printing/washing your chosen fabric before creating your final label and stitching it to your quilt or handmade item.

Test:
Wash as you would any quilt, with no harsh detergents, and do not use fabric softener. Allow to dry - press with a hot iron (5 - 12 seconds, both sides) using parchment paper or pressing sheet, and if all looks good, you can feel confident to create your quilt label for your quilt.
